Frequent occurrences of rodents, insects, and foreign object
Date2025-03-31 18:05Editer:adminRead
On March 31st, according to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), due to the continuous occurrence of foreign objects mixed in meals, the Japanese beef and rice chain restaurant SUKIYA temporarily closed almost all stores from 9:00 am on March 31st to 9:00 am on April 4th local time.
On January 21st, it was found that rat carcasses had been mixed in with miso soup provided by a restaurant in the Shiqi family. Until March 22nd, Shiqijia only released a statement on its official website acknowledging this fact. According to the investigation by Shiqijia, the rat body may have been mixed in during the preparation stage of miso soup ingredients, and the staff responsible for serving did not conduct an inspection before serving. After the incident, the involved store was closed for two days for hygiene inspections and employee training, and then resumed operations.
However, just a few days later, on March 28th, some cockroach remains appeared in the takeout food of another store. The restaurant involved apologized and refunded customers, and voluntarily closed down on the afternoon of the 28th.
The consecutive food safety issues prompted Shiqijia to issue a statement on its official website on March 29th, deciding to close approximately 1900 stores across Japan, except for some in shopping centers, from March 31st to April 4th. During the closure period, the store will carry out cleaning and other sanitation work to further investigate the cause of foreign object contamination.
As a large beef rice chain in Japan, Shiqijia mainly deals in beef rice, Japanese curry rice and other dishes. It has nearly 2000 stores throughout Japan and about 650 stores in other parts of Asia and South America. This large-scale closure and rectification is relatively rare in the Japanese chain catering industry.
Many Japanese netizens are skeptical about whether the hygiene conditions at home can be improved. Some netizens claimed that when the weather is warm, insects often gather around the lights in the store, and insects crawl on the ground and tables, but the store has not installed insect killers. Some netizens also pointed out that in order to save costs and reduce manpower, Shiqijia only arranges one store clerk to work on a daily basis, resulting in inadequate hygiene management.
This food safety incident not only affects the brand image of Shiqi Home, but also the stock price of Shiqi Home's parent company, Shanshang Holdings (7550. T), plummeted more than 5% on Monday after apologizing for the appearance of mice in miso soup last weekend. Whether Future Food Home can regain consumer trust through this store closure rectification remains to be seen.
